Jacobs Douwe Egberts (JDE)

Global Warehousing and Distribution Lead

Interview quotes

“We will complete the simplification from 70 to 34 warehouses this year. This will generate cost savings in the warehouse and distribution area. It is a perfect timing for the Global Warehouse and Distribution Lead to join the team, so that the next steps can be determined.”

“Customer focus in supply chain is the key for success. I truly find it a priority to get this more embedded in the JDE supply chain organization. Otherwise JDE will not be able to compete effectively. Warehouse and distribution have an impact on the service level. It is the first objective for the Global Warehousing and Distribution Lead to improve this.”

“The second focus for the Global Warehousing and Distribution Lead is cost related. We have substantial cost saving objectives.  Major cost savings need to come from execution. I use to refer to our initial savings strategy for the Global Warehousing and Distribution function as a guerrilla strategy: we bought over capacity of the warehousing and transport. However, with economic growth, this strategy may not work… I expect the Global Warehousing and Distribution Lead to bring the best strategy.”

“The culture at JDE is result-oriented. People are very ambitious and have a drive that they want to overachieve objectives.

As a manager, I place high value in transparency. To me, a culture of trust and reliance sets the stage for a high performing team. I have a passion for smart people, I like fierce discussions. However, we do not have time for long discussions. Compared to my previous employer thus work context is extremely fast-paced. In addition, I am truly fond of pro-activeness. I expect people to think in opportunities, make their own decisions and be entrepreneurial in how they approach their work.“

“JDE defines critical experiences as part of personal development, e.g. international exposure, P&L responsibility and continuous improvement. In this job, all of these aspects can be covered. As a possible next step, the Global Warehousing and Distribution Lead could for instance become Supply  Chain Director for a cluster of countries.”
